Fortune Cookie

"Food for Your Soul and Your Tummy"

My client is both a baker and a fortune teller. For her logo, I wanted to combine the spiritual and baking elements of her business model, while conveying the warm and comforting feeling that is so important to her. In the image, I attempted to incorporate images of my client herself: the thick-rimmed glasses, bandana, and sweet smile are some of her trademarks. I hope to achieve the impression that the woman in the logo IS Fortune Cookie.

The bandanna is key to this logo.  I incorporated chocolate chip cookie colors, beige and a very dark brown, into my color palette. The stars in the bandanna represent chocolate chips, as well as the metaphysical, since this baker makes food for both your soul and your tummy. Beige/brown can also represent confidence and reassurance. I chose purple for the rest of the images because the psychology behind it shows creativity, imagination, and wisdom. It's also quite commonly associated with metaphysical things.  The contrast between the beige and purple is complementary. I placed a purple banded circle around the face to represent a crystal ball.
Business Card
The front of the business incorporates repetition from the logo in both color and shape. The stars in the left hand corner are two stars that have been pulled directly from the logo's bandanna, and rearranged and re-sized to create a whimsical, trailing effect.

The proximity of the stars to the font is intended to give the impression of underscoring.   The darker stars are the same color as the "chocolate chip" stars in the bandanna, and the purple stars are the same color as rim of the glasses, the smile, and the outer circle. This repetition of color keeps the overall effect cohesive, and helps identify the brand across various mediums.

I filled in the circle that surrounds "Fortune Cookie's face," with the same color as the outer circle, then decreased the opacity to give it a transparent appearance. This provided a nice contrast between the white of the business card back and the logo itself.  I incorporated repetition of the transparent circle behind the stars and text on the card to again add an element of whimsy and color repetition.

The cursive font "Fascinating Celestina" shows the mystical aspects of the company. I used it for the larger lettering (name of the company, name of the client) and the company motto to repeat the mystical and whimsical aesthetic. I incorporated a serif font on the pertinent contact information for clarity and ease of reading.

The contact information is left justified for easy readability. The proximity of the company name to the logo is designed to break up the white space but not overcrowd.
The back of the business card simply repeats the circular design element from the front and adds a QR Code to the bottom left corner. By adding the QR Code and website information to the back, I attempted to reduce a cluttered feel on the front, and also to make this popular means of contact quickly and easily accessible.
Letter Head
Fortune Cookie's letterhead incorporates elements from the logo and business card to create cohesion. I used repetition with the purple circles that I created for the business card in the background of the letter body.  This very light shade of purple is meant to break up the stark whiteness of the letter gently, while still allowing for ease of reading.

I aligned the title centrally, but to the right of the logo.  The logo's aligned with the left corner so the eye will naturally be drawn there. I used the serif font for the address, phone number, and website in order to encourage clear and easy readability. I used the "Fascinating Celestina" text for the business name to encourage both repetition between the other items in the package, and the mystical feel of the company.

As you can see in the example of the letterhead with text, the transparency of the circles, even at the darkest point where they overlap, does not hinder text readability. The circles themselves provide contrast and help break up the stark whiteness of the letter paper.

I also incorporated the stars from the letterhead, as they are pulled from the chocolate chip bandanna of the logo. The darker brown/black trailing star contrasts with the deep purple and helps break up the purple effect. I kept the trailing effect of the stars, but minimized their scale s to just touch the corner of the letterhead and bleed into the margins. This marks the paper as clearly belonging to Fortune Cookie, but leaves the letter body free for typing.
Envelope
The Fortune Cookie business envelope incorporates repetition of the stars from the business card, letterhead, and bandanna. I reversed the image of the stars to allow one set of stars trailing in and one trailing out.  Their proximity to the logo gives it a framed look, but not in a classic or stiff way. I left most of the envelope white to allow for postage metering in the bottom right corner and addresses in the center. I repeated the usage of the fonts found in the letterhead and business card for continuity and cohesion.
Social Media-Facebook
The Facebook Profile picture is simply the Fortune Cookie Logo measured to meet the specifications of Facebook. I did not incorporate the name into this image because Facebook's design presents the name in close proximity to the photo regardless, and it would have seemed to cluttered to use it twice. I wanted the logo itself to be the profile picture image.
The Facebook cover photo is a spread of tarot cards. The client's business is fortune telling and baking and her specialty is tarot cards. The colors on the cards are complementary to the logo, but different enough to provide contrast.  The top card is "The Lovers" and shows two people embracing each other.  Since the why of this business is to provide comfort, the image is well suited to it. The sixth card down, the pentacle, shows a man with baked goods, incorporating the second aspect of the business, the baking, into the cover photo.
Social Media-Twitter
As mentioned with the Facebook profile picture, this image is simply the logo designed to match the Twitter specifications. The image does not contain the name because the name will be presented in close proximity to the image by Twitter.
The Twitter cover photo repeats the base beige color of the logo's bandanna, but adds contrast by allowing the brown wood of the rolling sheet below and bits of white powdered sugar on the side to peek through.  The client's baking is represented here by the dough, and her mystical fortune telling aspect is represented by the star cut outs.  The stars are a repeated symbol in this corporate identity.
